Rerouting a dryer vent in Campbell homes

Campbell laundry rooms rarely sit where the builder put them. Kitchen remodels and garage conversions moved the machine. The duct followed, badly. We see long horizontal runs snaked through soffits to reach an old exterior wall. On slab ranch homes the original garage-wall short run gets abandoned, then a twenty-foot path replaces a four-foot one. Rerouting reverses that. Shortest legal path with the fewest elbows, in rigid metal.

The decision is mostly geometry. Every 90-degree turn costs you equivalent feet of run. Two tight offsets can push a duct past what the dryer can move. On multi-story condos with roof jacks, those offsets hold compacted lint that no brush fully clears. When the stack is the problem, we look for a side-wall or eave termination instead. Sometimes there isn't one. Fire blocking and shear or party walls limit where we can cut.

Crawlspace routing on raised-foundation homes is often the better answer. It lets us drop straight down and run rigid pipe with supported joints, terminating low on the exterior. We seal joints with foil tape and screws pointed correctly, never sheet metal screws poking into the airstream.

Old 1950s and 60s ducting with failing taped joints usually gets replaced, not patched. Lint dumping inside a garage wall is worth fixing once.
